Township Police Arrest Alleged Illegal Immigrant

The following arrest information was supplied by the Chatham Township Police Department. It does not indicate a conviction.

Chatham Township Police said Monday that they arrested an Elizabeth man on a warrant from the Immigration and Naturalization Service.

On Friday at approximately 10:53 a.m., Patrolman Michael Sawyer stopped a vehicle for a motor vehicle violation on Noe Avenue, police said.

A computer check on the occupants of the vehicle, Jose S. Bonilla, 24, had an active warrant issued by the Immigration and Naturalization Service for failure to appear on a charge of being an "alien unlawfully present due to order of removal or exclusion from the USA," according to a police statement.

Bonilla was placed under arrest, transported to police headquarters and turned over to an agent from the Bureau of Immigration and Customs Agency, police said.
