Signs Signal Township's First 4-Way Stop

All vehicles now must stop at intersection of Floral Avenue and School Street.

Members of the Chatham Township Department of Public Works erected two stop signs Friday on Floral Avenue at School Street to create the township's first four-way stop.

The Chatham Township Committee passed an ordinance Thursday adding stop signs on Floral to the two which were already present along School Street at their meeting Thursday night.

Because Floral Avenue eastbound from Dale Drive widens as it approaches School Street, DPW employees and police debated on where the stop sign should be located.

Eventually, the sign was ereceted several feet west of the stop line. Motorists are expected to stop at the line, not at the sign.
