Township Police Welcome New Sergeant

Ten-year veteran Christopher Slayton had served in Detective Bureau, was juvenile delinquency officer.

Christopher Slayton was promoted to sergeant in the Chatham Township Police Department at Thursday’s Township Committee meeting.

Slayton, a 10-year veteran of the department, will be a patrol sergeant.

He graduated from the Morris County Police Academy in 2003 and has served eight years as a patrolman in Chatham Township.

In 2010, he spent four months working for the Morris County Prosecutor’s Office Special Task Force. In 2011, he was appointed to the Detective Bureau in the Chatham Township department.

Over the past several years, Slayton served as a detective and juvenile officer, responsible for criminal investigations and all juvenile delinquency matters.

His responsibilities at the department also included being evidence custodian, Megan’s Law officer and firearms officer.
