Six Car Accidents in Borough Over Past Few Days, Tickets Issued

A truck drove into a train overpass and a driver left the scene of an accident.

Borough police reported six accidents over the holiday weekend.

- On Saturday at 5:25 p.m., borough police said, a 2007 Nissan parked on Kings Road was hit by a vehicle that left the scene. Evidence indicated the car involved was a Mazda, and police eventually found the Mazda parked in the CVS parking lot nearby.

Michelle Motyczka, of Warren, who was driving the car, was issued a summons for careless driving.

- Nicholas Rillo, of Watchung, who was driving a 2009 Suzuki motorcycle, hit a deer while driving south on Fairmount Avenue Saturday at about 9:15 p.m. He was forced to lay down the motorcycle on its side.

He was transported to Morristown Memorial Hospital by the Chatham Emergency Squad with moderate injuries.

- Jean Morrissey, of Chatham, was issued a summons for failure to keep right after she hit a temporary stop sign placed in the northbound lane of Fairmount Avenue Monday at about 3:15 p.m. The stop sign was there because of a power outage in the area.

- A box truck that was too tall for the New Jersey Transit bridge on Washington Avenue hit the bridge at about 11:20 a.m. Tuesday. The driver, James Johnson, of Freehold, was issued a summons for careless driving and the vehicle was towed from the scene.

There were also accidents reported on Summit Avenue and at the intersection of Watchung and Lafayette Avenues on Tuesday.
