Power Restored in Borough

The outage last just over four hours.

Power has been restored throughout the borough, according to Mayor Nelson Vaughan.

The outage in the borough, and may have affected as many as 5,000, according to information provided on JCP&L's Web site.

Vaughan said the power went back on at about 5:30 p.m.

"It could have been worse," he said.

The power went out at about 1:15 p.m. in the borough, according to multiple reports. The outage did not affect homes or buildings in the township, according to township police.

Power has also been restored to some areas of Summit, where there were major outages and where, according to police communications, Overlook Hospital was operating with limited power. There were also outages in Millburn, New Providence and Springfield.

Springfield Mayor Ziad Shehady reported via Twitter the outage was caused when the Trainer sub-station in Chatham overheated.

About 17,000 customers across the area had been without power since 1:15 p.m.
