Power Knocked Out In Hickory Square Area

Officials on scene say power could be back in about two hours.

Power at Hickory Square Shopping Center and surrounding homes nearby was knocked out this afternoon, and crews are now in the process of repairing power lines nearby.

About 800 homes have been affected by the outage. Jersey Central Power & Light workers arrived on scene soon after the outage to repair downed lines near the intersection of Green Village Road and Melrose Lane.

Officials said they did not know why the power had failed in the area.

The traffic light at the intersection of Shunpike Road and Green Village Road was out for about 30 minutes but was back in service soon afterward. Township police were at the scene to briefly direct traffic before they placed stop signs at the intersection.

Frustrated shoppers left the shopping center at Hickory Square—where, inside CVS Pharmacy, the power was out—saying they were unable to refill their prescriptions because of the outage.
