Possible Luring Attempt Reported in Chatham

10-year-old boys were offered candy in CVS parking lot, according to police alert.

Chatham police are investigating a possible luring attempt in a Main Street parking lot that was reported to authorities this week.

Three 10-year-old boys said they were in the CVS parking lot Friday when a four-door sedan stopped near them and two men in the car asked if they would like some candy, according to a police news alert broadcast Tuesday afternoon.

The incident was reported to police on Monday, the alert says.

The boys became scared and ran into the CVS. They saw the vehicle leave the parking lot, but did not see which way it went, police said. The boys left the store approximately 15 minutes later.

The car was described as dark in color, possibly green or blue. The men were described as white, between 18 and 25 years old, and the driver had piercings in both ears and was wearing a baseball cap backwards, police said.

Anyone who was in the area at the time of the incident and believes they might have additional information can call the Chatham Borough Police Department Detective Bureau at 973-635-8000.
