Possible Child Luring Incident Reported

Man asked boys if they had seen his cat, then asked where they live, according to police.

Update: Police said this incident was not a luring attempt.

Chatham Borough police responded to a possible child luring incident Sunday that occurred in the area of Fuller Avenue at Dempster Road, according to a police alert.

A mother told authorities her 12-year-old son and his 12-year-old friend were on their way home from Dunkin Donuts when they were approached by a man driving a white Range Rover.

The man asked the boys if they had seen his cat, and then asked the boys where they live, the alert said.

The man was described as white, approximately 50 years old, and having grey/white hair.

An alert sent around 4:40 p.m. Sunday said the incident occurred earlier that day.

Anyone with information about the incident can call police 973-635-8000.
