Police Step Up Enforcement at Pedestrian Crosswalk

Borough police issued nine summonses on Fairmount Avenue near Chatham Station last week during a four hour span.

Be careful when you approach a crosswalk in Chatham Borough—police may be nearby, ready to ticket you if you don't stop for pedestrians.

Police said last week they set up a special enforcement detail near the crosswalk by Chatham Station on Fairmount Avenue. There is a significant amount of pedestrian traffic there during the day, according to police.

On Wednesday, police said, they ticketed nine people who did not yield to pedestrians in the crosswalk. Three officers took place in the effort, which took place between 4 and 8 p.m.

The summonses were given out as part of the borough police department's summertime safe streets campaign.
