Police Say Door Kicked in at Van Doren Avenue Home, Jewelry Taken

The homeowners were reportedly away on vacation at the time.

A door was kicked in at a Van Doren Avenue home and jewelry was taken from the house, according to borough police.

Police responded to the incident Sunday at 7:20 a.m. Police said the homeowners were away on vacation, but a neighbor watching the house noticed the front door was kicked in.

A neighbor reported hearing a loud noise at 2 a.m., but it is unknown whether that noise was related to the burglary.

Police said they checked the house and found that items from the master bedroom had been disturbed. When the homeowners returned from vacation, police said, they confirmed jewelry had been taken.

The Morris County Sheriff's Office assisted at the scene. The investigation is being conducted by the Chatham Borough Police Department Detective Bureau.
