Police: Officer Crossed Center Line, Caused Car Crash

Both cars were towed from the scene.

Chatham Borough Police said a police vehicle was involved in an accident on Hillside Avenue on Sept. 2.

According to police, the crash took place at a sharp turn near at 11:14 p.m.

Police said Sgt. Scott O'Connor was on duty and traveling north in a 2009 Dodge Durango owned by the Chatham Borough Police Department when he was struck by a 2004 Jeep driven by Jacob Huck, 24, of Summit.

Police said the crash was investigated by the Traffic Safety Officer, Robert Sweetin, who determined O'Connor crossed the center line at the bend in the road and was struck by Huck, who was traveling south on Hillside Avenue.

There were no injuries and both cars were driven from the scene. No summonses were issued.
