Police: Fraud at Shunpike Pharmacy, Area Michael's

Police set up surveillance to catch the alleged fraudster.

Chatham Township Police said they arrested township resident Renee Ronchi for prescription fraud on May 15, according to a statement released Friday.

Police said that an employee of Shunpike Road Pharmacy alerted Detective Christopher Slayton that a possibly fraudulant prescription for hydrocone had been filed.

Slayon set up surveillance and arrested Ronchi, 54, after she arrived at the store, paid for the prescription and attempted to leave, police said.

Ronchi previously worked for a Mountainside doctor and called the pharmacy and ordered the prescription under the doctor's name, police said.

Police said they transported Ronchi to police headquarterd, processed her and charged her with obtaining a prescription drug by fraud and possession of a controlled dangerous substance of over five pills.

Rochi was released after posting 10 percent of the $2,500 bail set by Judge Gary Troxwell, police said. She has a court date scheduled for May 24, according to police.

Township police said that since May 12, six township residents reported to police that thousands of dollars had been charged to their credit cards at various locations in California.

An investigation by detectives determined that each of the victims had used their credit cards at different Michaels stores in the area, police said.

Detectives also learned that Michaels' computer database had been compromised and credit card information stolen, according to police.

Each of the victims is working with their respective credit card companies to resolve the issue, police said.
