Pick From 6 Block Parties on National Night Out

The nation-wide night of crime awareness takes place Tuesday evening.

Chatham Township Police said that six neighborhoods are hosting block parties for the 28th Annual National Night Out on Tuesday evening.

Parties begin at 6 p.m. at the following locations:

  • 30 Hilltop Ter.
  • 1 Lake Rd.
  • 62 Candace Ln.
  • Green Village Fire Department on Green Village Road
  • Chatham Township Fire Department on River Road, and
  • Wickham Woods Gazebo on Southern Boulevard (across the street from the Chatham Township Fire Station, also known as the Joseph Stauss Memorial Gazebo)

National Night Out began as an effort to educate residents on how to prevent crimes and drug use in their neighborhoods and to strengthen relationships between local police and residents.

All block parties will be visited by members of the Chatham Township Police Department, elected officials from Chatham Township, and McGruff the Crime Dog.

Seven Chatham block parties were held for National Night Out in 2010. Summit, Madison and East Hanover were among the over 15,000 other communities within the US, US territories and Canada that participated in last year's night out against crime.
