UPDATE: Pedestrian Struck by Armored Car

48-year-old Chatham Borough victim remains in intensive care Friday afternoon.

UPDATE: 4:07 p.m.—Chatham Borough Police confirmed that a 48-year-old borough resident was struck by an armored car while walking at the corner of Main Street and Coleman Avenue Friday morning.

Sgt. Michael Mahoney and Patrolman Roy George responded to the sceneat about 8:40 a.m.

The armored car was driven by Tiffany Jones, 27, of Orange, police said.

According to police, one vehicle heading east on Main Street came to a stop at the crosswalk to allow the woman to cross. Another vehicle heading west on Main Street also stopped, police said.

At this time, Jones was stopped in the armored car on Railroad Plaza waiting to make a left onto Main Street, police said.

When Jones saw the traffic come to a stop, she made the left turn onto Main Street to head west and struck the pedestrian in the crosswalk, police said.

The impact caused serious, but non-life-threatening injuries to the woman's legs and head, police said. The pedestrian, a resident of Vincent Avenue, was transported to Morristown Memorial Hospital by the Chatham Emergency Squad. She was in the Intensive Care Unit at Morristown Memorial Hospital Friday as of 2 p.m.

Jones told police that she never saw the pedestrian in the crosswalk while making the turn, police said. She was given a summons for careless driving and failure to exhibit insurance documents, and was released pending further court action.
