Newark Man Arrested in Township Burglary

Video surveillance led police to a suspect.

Chatham Township Police charged a Newark man with allegedly committing a burglary at a home on River Road in June.

Kenneth Perez, 38, was served with the arrest warrant on July 1 at the Essex County Correctional Facility in Newark, where he is being held on an unrelated matter.

Lt. Maureen Kazaba said the home burglary was reported on June 13 when a River Road resident said her home had been entered and several possessions stolen, including electronic equipment and jewelry.

The homeowner had previously installed surveillance equipment which captured the crime, Kazaba said.

Ptmn. Scott Herchick and Det. Brad Hayworth investigated the burglary and arrested Perez.
