UPDATE: Broken Connection Leaves Over 1,400 Chathamites Without Power

Crews are on the scene, says a JCP&L spokesman.

Less than three weeks after an knocked out the power in most of Chatham, the First Energy website shows Chatham customers reporting their power out Wednesday afternoon.

Chatham Borough Council Member Bruce Harris said, "there's a transformer that's out on Van Doren [Avenue]." He also said the ECLC facility at Lum Avenue School also lost power, and likely more than one transformer is out. At approximately 6:30 p.m. Harris stated power was restored.

A Nixle alert from the Chatham Township Police went out shortly before 5:45 p.m. The alert stated Fairmount Avenue was closed at Runnymede Road at Chatham Township due to a downed power line.

A JCP&L spokesman told Chatham Patch that 1,456 Chathamites had reported power outages between 4 p.m. and 6:15 p.m. due to a broken wire connection.

Jennifer Hyland of Chatham contacted Chatham Patch shortly before 4:30 p.m. to say her power had gone out. Other Morris County towns, including Parsippany, also reported experiencing sporadic outages.

As of 4:49 p.m. the First Energy website showed between 501 and 2,000 residents in Chatham have reported a problem with their electricity.
