Madison Resident's Car Hit by Falling Tree

Dara Facciani was treated at the scene of the accident by the Chatham Emergency Squad.

A large tree fell, , Chatham Township Police said in a statement released Friday.

Patrolmnan James Lattoz responded to reports of a motor vehicle accident on River Road between Southern Boulevard and Hillside Avenue on Wednesday afternoon, police said.

Upon arrival, Lattoz found a large tree resting on a vehicle, police said. Lattoz was able to safely remove the driver from the vehicle before the Chatham Township Volunteer Fire Department arrived on the scene, according to the statement.

The driver, Dara Facciani of Madison, told the officer that she was traveling west on River Road when she saw a large tree begin to fall, police said.

Facciani tried to move to the right side of the roadway to avoid the tree, but it hit her hood and windshield, according to police. The vehicle sustained heavy damage and had to be towed from the scene, according to police.

Facciani reported a neck injury, was treated at the scene by the Chatham Emergency Squad and transported to Morristown Memorial Hospital, police said.

The Department of Public Works employees also responded to the scene to remove the tree from the roadway, police said.
