Madison Jewelry Store Target of Smash-and-Grab Burglary

Police seek two men in connection with incident on Main Street.

Police are looking for two men—possibly black or Hispanic—in connection with an overnight smash-and-grab burglary of a Main Street jewelry store.

According to police, the front door of , at 61 Main St., was pried open Tuesday at about 1 a.m. According to spokesman Lt. Darren Dachisen, three glass display cases were smashed and costume jewelry was loaded into a small brown garbage can.

Witnesses told police the two men, possibly black or Hispanic, were wearing dark-colored hooded sweatshirts and black gloves.

No other details were immediately available. The amount of merchandise taken from the store was not immediately known.

Gerlach's was open for business Tuesday, and any evidence of the break-in had been cleaned up. Store staff declined to comment on the incident.
