Hurricane Irene: Handy Numbers To Stick To The Fridge

In case of trouble, be prepared with this handy list.

As Hurricane Irene approaches New Jersey, emergency workers are reminding people that call volume skyrockets during a crisis. Many of the calls are non-emergency calls that could be better handled by another agency. 

The following is a partial list of phone numbers to call releated to specific problems you may have:

  • Power outages, call JCP&L: 1-888-LIGHTSS (544-4877) or PSE&G: 800-436-PSEG (7734)
  • Phone service or FIOS television, call Verizon: 1-800-837-4966
  • Cable TV service, Cablevision: 866-633-0193
  • Downed trees in Chatham Township, call the Chatham Township Police Department or the Chatham Township Department of Public Works: (973) 377-0100 (police) or (973) 377-5114 (DPW).
  • Downed tress in Chatham Borough, call the Chatham Borough Police Department: (973) 635-8000
  • General assistance or information in Chatham Borough, call Mayor Nelson Vaughan: (973) 701-6811 (office); (973) 417-2964 (cell); (201) 826-7093 (cell).

For any emergency situation, however, residents should not hesitate to call 9-1-1.
