Hit and Run Accident Reported at Southern and Shunpike

An unknown SUV fled the scene of an accident at the intersection of Shunpike Road and Southern Boulevard Saturday just after 9:30 p.m., according to township police.

Police said two vehicles received minor damage, and one fled the scene. Police said the vehicle that fled may have been a Jeep Grand Cherokee and could have been driven by a female. Contact township police at 973-377-0100 with information.

Police pulled over a Jeep Grand Cherokee on River Road at 9:45 p.m. Saturday night, thinking the car could have been the one involved in the hit and run. When they pulled the car over, they said they noticed the driver smelled like marijuana. He was later found to be in possession of marijuana.

Police said they arrested the driver, Matthew Krickus, 18, of the township, and charged him with marijuana possession. He was later released.

In other police news, police arrested Erin Lundstrom, 31, of the township Monday after pulling her over on Heritage Drive. Police said her driving privileges had been revoked, and said there was an outstanding warrant for $100 issued by Verona. She was arrested on the warrant and released after posting bail.

Police also arrested Marin R. Barniqua, 37, of Hackensack after he was found to be driving an uninsured vehicle without a valid license.

Police said Barniqua's vehicle was towed from the roadway. They said he was issued summonses for failure to keep right and for being an unlicensed and uninsured driver.
