Fallen Power Line Blocks Road Near Chatham High

A large tree brought down power lines when it fell across the intersection of Fairview and Dellwood avenues Tuesday afternoon.

Chatham Township Police blocked Fairview Avenue between Dellwood Avenue and Lafayette Avenue near Chatham High School and are going door-to-door to warn residents.

Motorists are advised to stay away from the area. Pedestrians, including students from Chatham High, will not be allowed to enter the intersection of Dellwood and Fairview, or to walk along Fairview between Lafayette and Dellwood avenues.

Police were alerted to the situation at about 1:45 p.m. Tuesday. The Chatham Township Department of Public Works is on the scene and working to clear the area.

As of 1:55 p.m., the wires were still powered and police did not allow pedestrians near the area.

Police alerted Chatham High School officials of the situation.
