DWI Arrest in the Borough

Police said Basking Ridge resident showed signs of intoxication at the scene of an accident.

A Basking Ridge resident was arrested for driving while intoxicated after crashing her car into a telephone pole, according to borough police.

Police said Nancy Harmon, 45, of Basking Ridge, was driving a 2001 Nissan SUV when she failed to negotiate a turn near 245 Hillside Ave. and hit a rock, a mailbox and a telephone pole at about 11 p.m. Aug. 12.

When officers arrived, Harmon told them an oncoming car entered her lane and caused her to swerve off the road, police said. Police said Harmon was unable to provide a description of the other car.

Police said Harmon showed signs of intoxication and failed field sobriety tests. She was transported to Morristown Memorial Hospital by the Chatham Emergency Squad so a leg injury she sustained could be treated, police said, and while she was at the hospital, according to police, her blood alcohol content was tested.

Harmon was eventually charged with driving while intoxicated, reckless driving and failure to keep right, according to police.
