Drunken Driver Injured After Striking Utility Pole, Cops Say

Chatham resident was extricated by firefighters after Kings Road crash.

A 47-year-old Chatham man was intoxicated when he lost control of his car on Kings Road and struck a utility pole, police said.

The driver, Timothy Crow, was extricated by members of the Chatham Fire Department because of damage to the vehicle, a 2013 Volvo, police said.

Crow allegedly showed signs of being intoxicated when police responded to the crash at about 5:10 p.m. Jan. 5, but he was unable to perform field sobriety tests because of his injuries, police said.

He was taken to a hospital by the Chatham Emergency Squad for treatment, police spokesman Kevin O'Shea said. Police said Crow's face was injured in the crash.

Crow was traveling eastbound when he lost control of the car, which traveled across a front lawn, glanced off a tree and struck the utility pole before coming to rest in the snow, police said.

A search warrant was obtained to allow a blood sample to be taken to determine Crow's blood alcohol content. He was issued summonses for DWI, reckless driving, failure to wear a seat belt, and having an open container of alcohol, police said.
