Police: Teens Caught With Drugs and Alcohol

The following information was obtained directly from Chatham Township Police Department. It does not indicate a conviction.

One township minor was charged with alcohol possession and a Westfield teen was charged with possession of drug paraphernalia following a motor vehicle stop, said Thursday.

Patrolman David Weinert stopped a motor vehicle on Fairmount Avenue for a speeding violation on Sept. 24 at approximately 9:54 p.m., according to a statement from police.

A subsequent investigation resulted in the arrest of William D. Hay, 19, of Westfield for possession of marijuana, police said.

Further investigation resulted in the arrest of a 17-year-old Chatham Township resident for alcohol possession and a 17-year-old Westfield resident for drug paraphernalia, according to police.

Hay was processed and released on his own recognizance pending an October court date in municipal court, police said.

The two juveniles were processed at police headquarters and released to the custody of their parents pending action through the juvenile justice system, according to police.

New York City Man Arrested

Patrolman Michael Giannone stopped a vehicle on Shunpike Road at approximately 1:53 a.m. on Sept. 21 after the officer saw the driver commit a moving violation, police said.

After speaking with the driver and the subsequence roadside investigation, Giannone determined that the driver, Michael Stansfield of New York, 46, was driving while intoxicated, according to police.

Stansfield was placed under arrest, transported to police headquarters, processed and charged with driving while intoxicated, police said. He was later released to a friend and is due to appear in municipal court to answer the charges, according to police.
