Township Resident Collecting Logs Arrested for Alleged Drunk Driving

The incident occurred Saturday morning near the intersection of Southern Boulevard and River Road.

A Chatham resident who claimed to be picking up trash was arrested Saturday for allegedy driving while intoxicated.

At approximately 12:04 a.m. on May 7, Patrolman Anthon Loporto observed an unoccuied vehicle parked in the roadway on Southern Boulevard near River Road obstructing a lane of traffic, police said.

Loporto noticed a woman staggering in the roadway several feet in front of the vehicle, police said. According to the police report, the woman carried a garbage bag and was picking up logs.

When Loporto confronted her, the woman said she was picking up trash that Chatham Township would not pick up, police said.

After a further investigation, Guinter was arrested Janice Guinter, 56, of Chatham, for allegedly driving while intoxicated, police said. She was transported to police headquarters, processed and released to a friend, according to the police report.

Guinter was also charged with failure to exhibit her driver's license, vehicle registration and insurance card, and obststructing the flow of traffic, police said.

Guinter is scheduled to appear in court on May 24, police said.
