Boy, 13, Taken to Hospital After Hit By Car

Witnesses say the boy was not using the crosswalk on Lafayette Avenue, according to police.

A 13-year-old boy was struck by a car while crossing Lafayette Avenue near Main Street Wednesday morning, Chatham Borough Police said.

The boy complained of having pain and was transported to the hospital, police said.

The boy was not using the crosswalk when he was struck by a 56-year-old Chatham Borough woman at about 7:15 a.m., police said. The woman was not issued a summons, police said.

Officer Wayne Shivers investigated the incident and found that the boy ran across Lafayette Avenue and was struck by a vehicle traveling southbound, according to police.

The boy was not in the crosswalk at the time of the accident, according to several witnesses, police said.

The boy complained of pain and was taken to Morristown Medical Center by the Chatham Emergency Squad, according to police. Police declined to comment on the boy's specific injuries and his exact condition.
