Borough Police Helped Search for Short Hills Mall Shoplifters

The two teenage suspects were not found.

A chase of shoplifters into the woods on Monday night yielded no results for the Millburn police.

Two accused shoplifters fled the Mall at Short Hills after a confrontation at Macy's, ran through the parking lot, across John F. Kennedy Parkway and into the woods behind the Hilton Short Hills in an incident first reported at about 7:45 p.m., according to Police Capt. James Miller. Police from Summit and Chatham Borough assisted in the search, but the two teenage suspects were not located.

Loss prevention staff at the store reported to police one of the teens concealed several items in a backpack and handed it to the second teen, Miller said. They exited the store, were confronted by the security and started running. But the loss prevention staff was able to grab the backpack and recover the stolen items, Miller said.
