Borough Police Arrest Man for Possession of Over 50 Marijuana Plants

Edwin B. Struve was charged with operating a controlled dangerous substance production facility.

A borough resident was arrested Monday after police discovered he possessed 58 marijuana plants and was intending to distribute them, according to borough police.

Police said they responded to the home of Edwin B. Struve, 62, on an unrelated matter on April 29 and detected a strong smell of raw marijuana. According to this year's tax records, a man named Edwin B. Struve lives at 29 Dellwood Ave., which is located behind Chatham High School.

After the April 29 incident, police said they received a search warrant for Struve's home. When they executed the search warrant, police said, they found and confiscated 58 marijuana plants and other items associated with the plants' cultivation.

Judge Vincent McMann issued an arrest warrant and set bail at $50,000 with no 10 percent option.

Struve was arrested Monday and charged with operating a controlled dangerous substance production facility, possession of over 50 plants of marijuana with the intent to distribute, possession of under 50 plants of marijuana with the intent to distribute, possession of over 50 grams of marijuana on or near school property and possession of drug paraphernalia.

After he was arrested, police said, he was taken to police headquarters, where he posted the $50,000 bail and was released pending a court appearance.
