Borough Overpass Struck Twice in Two Weeks
Police said the overpass bridge was hit twice by trucks between Aug. 4 and 12.
Chatham Borough Police said two trucks hit the train overpass on Watchung Avenue between Aug. 4 and 12.
On Aug. 4 at about 11:20 a.m., Patrolman Jeffrey Battiloro responded to the overpass to investigate an incident, police said.
He found a box truck driven by Daniel Hogan, 60, of Robbinsville, struck the overpass and became wedged under the bridge, police said.

According to a police statement released Wednesday, Hogan said he thought his truck was 11-foot-2 and was able to pass under the bridge, which has a posted height of 11-foot-4.
The truck was removed by DeFalco’s Towing and Hogan was issued a summons for careless driving, police said.

On Aug. 12, Patrolman Daniel Walsh responded to the overpass on Watchung Avenue to investigate an accident at approximately 8:50 a.m., police said.
Walsh found a tractor trailer driven by Maximilia Dasilva, 33, of Harrison, struck the bridge, police said.
According to the statement, Dasilva's trailer was 12-foot-6.
Dasilva was issued a summons for careless driving, police said.
