Alleged Drunk Driver Plunges Cable Vehicle Into Ravine

Fairfield resident failed a field sobriety test after he drove his car off a ravine.

A 31-year-old Fairfield resident failed a field sobriety test after driving an Optimum Cable vehicle into a drainage ditch, police said Wednesday.

Patrolmen Robert Sweetin, Roy George and Andrew Chase responded to reports of a car that had driven off the end of Vine Street and into a ravine Tuesday at approximately 9:55 p.m., according to the police report.

Upon arrival, the policemen found that an Optimum Cable vehicle had run off the end of the street and had landed in a drainage ditch, police said.

The driver was identified Michael Ciesla, according to the police report. Police said Ciesla exhibited signs of intoxication, failed a field sobriety test and was arrested.

After Ciesla was transported to headquarters, police said he failed to provide adequate breath samples for testing.

Ciesla was arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated, reckless driving and refusal to submit to breath testing, police said. According to the report, he was released to a family member pending further action.
