8 Locals Registered for Marathon; 3 Confirmed Safe

Two explosions were reported near the finish line of the Boston Marathon Monday.

Eight residents of the Chathams were registered to run in the Boston Marathon, where two explosions were reported near the finish line shortly after 3 p.m. Monday.

Among 562 New Jersey residents who signed up to run the marathon are:

  • Robert Bragoli,
  • Jennifer Donoghue,
  • Tamara Melo,
  • Dennis "Denny" Moynihan
  • Richard Noonan,
  • Cande Olsen,
  • Daniel Patrick and
  • Vivian Wilson, all of Chatham

As of 4:25 p.m. Monday, the Boston Police Department said two were dead and at least 23 injured from the explosions, which were heard one just after another.

It is not yet known whether the explosions were accidental or not.

Olsen contacted Chatham Patch to say she and Wilson were at the 25.7 marker when race officials would not let them finish. Both are safe. Moynihan confirmed he completed the marathon and is unharmed.

We hope to hear confirmation of the safety of the other runners from Chatham.

The Boston Athletic Association (BAA), which holds the marathon, allows for online searches of individual runners. According to the website, Bragoli, Donoghue and Melo finished the marathon.

No data was available for Noonan or Patrick.

According to National Public Radio (NPR), over 23,000 people run in the Boston Marathon each year, the oldest marathon race in the world. This is its 117th year.

The race began at 9 a.m. Monday. Mobility-impaired runners went first, with elite women, elite men and three waves of about 9,000 entrants each following. The last wave left the start line at about 10:30 a.m.

NPR said the race appeared to have stopped as emergency personnel tend to the wounded.
