4th of July Parade, Fireworks Set for Thursday

Rain date for fireworks is Friday, but officials hope it won't be necessary.

The traditional Fourth of July Parade, Barbeque and Fireworks Show are all scheduled for Thursday. Now all officials need is for the weather to cooperate.

"Let’s pray for great weather, because it’s so much fun," Chatham Borough Mayor Bruce A. Harris said of the parade.

The Chatham Borough Fire Department hosts the day's festivities, now in their 59th year. However, the Chatham Borough Police Department will help make this year's parade "a special celebration," Harris said, in honor of their 100th anniversary.

"Most of the police force will be in the parade" to celebrate the milestone anniversary, Harris said, which was also marked as the theme of this year's Fishawack Festival.

The Independence Day Parade begins at 10:30 a.m. at the intersection of Main Street and Hillside Avenue. From there the parade will travel west to Chatham Middle School, where the barbeque and fireworks show will take place.

Motorists should expect closures along Main Street from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

The fireworks display will begin at sunset, which is set for 8:31 p.m. Thursday.
