30th National Night Out Comes to Chatham Tuesday

Police, fire and emergency squad officials go out into the neighborhoods and encourage safe practices and crime prevention.

Chatham Township Police and residents will participate in the 30th Annual National Night Out Tuesday.

National Night Out began as an effort to educate residents on how to prevent crimes and drug use in their neighborhoods and to strengthen relationships between local police and residents.

The Green Village Fire Department and Chatham Township Fire Department will both host barbeques for National Night Out at their respective fire houses. For the township department, National Night Out barbeques are typically held at the River Road fire house.

All block parties will be visited by members of the Chatham Township Police Department, elected officials from Chatham Township, and McGruff the Crime Dog.
