Unconscious Man Found With 30 Bags of Pot, Cops Say

Police said PCP was also found on Berkeley Heights resident at River Grille.

A Berkeley Heights man was charged with drug possession in Chatham Friday after police said they found him unconscious and with 30 bags of marijuana at the River Grille on River Road.

Jacquim Sperlazza, 25, was charged with possession of marjiuana, possession of marijuana with intent to distribute, being under the influence of a narcotic drug, possession of Phencyclidine (also known as PCP) and possession of drug paraphernalia.

According to a press release prepared by Chatham Police Ptl. Kevin O'Shea, police responded to the River Grille around 2 a.m. after Sperlazza was reported to have fallen. When officers arrived, O'Shea said Sperlazza was beginning to regain consciousness but appeared to be under the influence of drugs.

Police then found him to be in possession of the marijuana bags and a small vial of Phencyclidine, O'Shea said. Sperlazza was transported to Morristown Medical Center by the Chatham Emergency Squad. He was later released with a ticket to appear in court.

Hani, how can you make a comment on place you have never been to?? Know all the facts before you open your mouth and say such untrue things !! How is the River Grille a drug den?? Is it because a men came into the restaurant around closing time and ask for a drink and the bartender said NO. And refused to serve him. Then the management called the CPD. The River Grille is a very nice place with great food!! So please don't say things that are untrue!

Good point, Peter. It's not the rowdy place it was under a previous owner when a patron was killed by brick smashed into his skull.

Han's retort makes no sense.

Change the name all you want. but it's still a bar for local drunks. Make it fancier with better food, but it's still Flynn's.

CHS class of '05 has a steady presence there.

@GarageRock, true....as the old saying goes, you can put lipstick on a pig, but it's still a pig

As for Mr. Schwab's comments, the gentleman charged with possession was INDEED served at the bar that night. There is simple proof of that if you properly review your numerous camera videos placed variously around your property. Furthermore, it was not "management" who called CPD, it was a patron, the individual's phone's call log can confirm this. I'd suggest fact checking and a bit more diligently on your part to keep your fine establishment in better standing with the community.
