Community Corner

Serving the Community

For the past 5 years, I have had the honor to be an elected member of the School District of the Chatham (SDOC) Board of Education.  During this period, the Board and Leadership team have overcome serious economic constraints, managed enrollment growth, preserved the community’s right to approve District budgets and overcame two major weather interruptions (2011 / 2012).

Looking forward, the School District has important challenges to address:

- Implementation of the Common Core Standards in the curriculum

- Professional staff development to enhance the quality of our educators

- Modernization of classrooms and facilities to complement the education program

- Planning for the 2% budget cap while preserving program quality

As of Friday, Nov 1, 2013, I stepped off the Board to address personal and professional interests.  Volunteer candidates interested in serving the remaining term (18 months) will be interviewed by Township members, who will then submit a recommendation to the full Board for approval.

I encourage all who are interested, to contact the SDOC Office and participate in the process.  Being a Board member provides a wonderful opportunity to contribute to the community and become immersed in one of America’s most important Institutions, Public Education.
