Rutgers Helps Chatham Man to 'Eclectic' Education

Chatham resident Mark Hansen left high school thinking he would go to college in Connecticut and open a record label. Instead he turned into a model of the "eclectic" education Rutgers University has to offer.

Now a member of the class of 2013, Hansen was featured in Rutgers Today as one of this year's stand-out graduates, a member of the Honors Program at the School of Arts and Sciences and a man who turned from a "reluctant student" to a passionate academic impatient to contribute to "a complex world facing complicated problems," according to the article.

The article credits a "political awakening" with Hansen's eventual transfer to Rutgers and his switch from studies in sound recording to American Studies and Visual Arts.

"I feel that the best way to get people involved is through art, music and mass culture," the article quotes Hansen as saying.
