Connor Cortese Becomes Fifth Youth Wrestler To Qualify To Represent Chatham In Scholastic State Wrestling Championships

Connor Cortese Places At State Qualifier

On Feb. 10, 2013, Connor Cortese accomplished what many wrestlers in New Jersey hope to do. He qualified to compete in the Scholastic State Wrestling Championships by taking a silver medal at the Lakeland Qualifier at Lakeland Regional High School.

Connor earned a bye into the quarter finals of his weight (70) bracket on the strength of last years championship at the Toms River Qualifier. Connor beat his opponent 3-0 to advance to the finals. Connor then lost a close match in the finals to take second place, earning a spot in the 18 man bracket for his weight class.

Connor joins four other Chatham Youth Wrestlers who placed at the Toms River Qualifier on July 20, 2013 ( Drew Mitzak first place, Jack Chambers first place, PJ Joel second place and Niccolo Colucci second place). Connor will be representing Chatham in the 70 pound bracket at the State Championships which will take place for his age group on March 24 at Moorestown High School.
