Chatham Youth Wrestlers Win Five In A Row After Beating Walkill Valley 49-39 and Wharton 73-36

Chatham Youth Wrestlers Win Five In A Row

The Chatham Youth Wrestlers are on a roll. After winning three matches in a row (Hampton-Sandyston 57-30, New Providence 63-21 and Hanover Park 50-30) the mighty Cougars took on a fierce team from Walkill Valley at Mountainview.

Walkill Valley is one of the powerhouses in wrestling in Northern New Jersey. In a 49-39 win, Chatham got stand out performances from several wrestlers.

Following a forfeit to Connor Cortese (70), Phillip Hoerrner (80) wrestled with all heart and guts to beat his opponent 7-3. PJ Joel (85) then got a forfeit at his weight class. It seems that Walkill bumped their 85 pounder up to the 90 pound weight class to avoid having to wrestle PJ. That plan failed when Cyrus Khani (90) pinned this wrestler in the first period. The match was still very close until Chatham's 109 pounder, Eric Davis beat his opponent 13-4.

Any chance of a Walkill come back ended when Luke Ciccarelli (116) pinned his opponent. Chatham's victory was sealed with forfeits to Matthew Tether (123), Niccolo Colucci (130) and Tim Rohe (137) .

Although celebration was in order, there was no time for it. Following this match Chatham had to literally rush to New Providence to wrestle Wharton. It was worth the trip as this would turn out to be Chatham's largest victory of the season.
