Chatham Novice Wrestler Qualify To Compete In State Wrestling Championships

Chatham novice wrestlers to compete in state championship.

The Chatham Youth Wrestling Club has many goals. One of the goals of our novice program is to develop our first and second year wrestlers so that they will be able to compete in the varsity lineup and in open tournaments.

Jared Cohn, Brian Boler and Collin Boler distinguished themselves by qualifying to wrestle in the New Jersey Novice Wrestling State Championships this past weekend. This is not an easy task. On January 20, these boys traveled to Fairlawn High School and competed against other first and second year wrestlers their own age and weight. There were hundreds of wrestlers at this event trying to qualify to wrestle in the Novice State Championships.

Jared Cohn is a very physical second year wrestler who gets better after every practice. Jared (90) pinned his first opponent and then beat his second opponent on points to advance to the finals of his weight class. Jared would ultimately lose a very close match in the finals to take second place. Brian and Collin are fiesty, aggressive and physical 8 year old twins who never miss practice. As a result, they have become very good novice wrestlers. The results speak for themselves.

In his third match, Brian was losing by a lot of points. Never one to give up, Brian pinned his opponent with just 1.6 seconds left on the clock. Brian lost his next match (four matches) on points to finish the day in third place.
