Wickham Woods Treated to Spur-of-the-Moment Christmas Parade

'I'm just like a big kid with the ability to make these things happen,' local landscaper says.

The idea for Wickham Woods' first Christmas parade was conceived by two neighbors talking.

In a matter of days, a float was created, email invitations were sent, and the parade rolled through town.

The residential development in Chatham Township off Southern Boulevard enjoyed a Christmas parade Sunday afternoon that is expected to be the start of a new tradition.

One of local landscaper Steve Simonfay's trucks—featuring an inflatable snowman and Santa towering over 20 feet tall, and decorated with leftover evergreens—drove through the neighborhood.

People snapped photos along the route on the 70-degree day, and dozens of neighbors joined the parade.

Simonfay has two children, ages 3 and 6, and his wife leads the Wickham Woods Neighborhood Association.

"It was really a fun event that was very heartfelt, a fun event for all the kids," Simonfay said.

He said they plan to start holding a Wickham Woods Christmas parade every year.

"I'm just like a big kid with the ability to make these things happen," he said.
