Garden Club Decorates Chathams for the Holidays

Group has decked library's Christmas trees for more than three decades.

Members of The Town and County Garden Club of the Chathams have been busy helping to decorate Chatham for the holidays.

First, adding the wreaths and evergreen swags at the windows and front door of the Red Brick School House on Fairmount Avenue, then the wreaths and other greenery to the front of the Chatham Senior Center on Meyersville Road.

Next the downtown planters were filled with miniature Alberta Spruce trees and white and red painted branches.  The final task was to decorate the Christmas trees in the library, the larger one in the main room and a smaller tree in the Children’s room.

The Garden Club has been decorating the trees for over 30 years and continues the tradition of using only natural materials to fashion the ornaments, along with colorful seed packages. Over the last year members have had hours of fun making ‘critters’ from teasels, peppercorns, dried leaves, acorns and other seeds; dried flowers arrangements in parchment cones, and white Lunaria ornaments topped with amaranth and bay leaves.  Adding to the interest are dried hydrangea flower heads and ribbons.
