Chatham Author Featured in New York Times

Local gardener Marta McDowell discusses new book 'Beatrix Potter's Gardening Life.'

An interview with Chatham Township author and gardener Marta McDowell recently was featured in The New York Times.

The piece says gardeners who grew up hearing the tales of Peter Rabbit "can now curl up" with McDowell's new book, “Beatrix Potter’s Gardening Life: The Plants and Places That Inspired the Classic Children’s Tales."

In the interview, McDowell discusses rabbit characters she grew up with (Peter Rabbit is not among them), finding Beatrix Potter's home in England to be a "magical place," as well as Potter's relationships and her work as a preservationist.

The Chicago Tribune's website also has an article about the book.

McDowell, who lives in Chatham Township with her husband, is an instructor with the New York Botanical Gardens, has been published in "Better Homes & Gardens" and other magazines, and is involved with local gardening groups. Her first book, "Emily Dickinson's Gardens," also explored the gardening life of a writer.
