Chatham Resident Launches Effort to Provide Shoes for Ugandan Children

Ryan Nestler says an orphanage for babies is in serious need of shoes to allow their wards to be able to play outdoors.

Next month, Chatham resident Ryan Nestler heads back to Kampal, Uganda, to visit the Sanyu Babies Home. The facility is an orphanage specifically for children under the age of four, and clearly it has made an impression on Nestler. In addition to going to the site to volunteer, she's also set up a GoFundMe campaign in the hopes of raising funds for the institution.

Nestler wrote on the page that the need is real at Sanyu.

"They generally have about 50 babies at a time and are always in desperate need of shoes so these children can go outside, play and be kids," she said. "I am traveling back to Uganda and Sanyu Babies in January and would love to raise enough money to bring them a new pair of shoes for each baby (my goal is also to raise enough for me to bring them over there with me)."

Consider helping Ryan Nestler help Ugandan babies through Shoes for Sanyu this holiday season, and check out other area GoFundMe efforts that could use your assistance.
