What Municipal Boards to Look For at Fishawack

And other essential information to help you get ready for Chatham's biggest festival.

As Chathamites count down to Saturday's Fishawack Festival, Chatham Patch brings you a few booths to look out for. At the 2011 Fishawack, the first time the festival has been held on what was traditionally an "off" year, several municipal boards have reserved booths so members of the public can learn more about them and their mission. For more information, check out these Five Things You Need to Know About Fishawack:

  1. You need to know about the mayor and representatives: The Chatham Borough Mayor and Council will have their own booth, where Mayor Nelson Vaughan and Council Members Bruce Harris, Jim Lonergan, John Holman, Len Resto and Vicki Fife will be available to members of the public. The booth, and other municipal boards with booths, will be located on the east side of Fairmount Avenue between Main Street and Firehouse Plaza.
  2. You need to know about the Mayor’s Wellness Campaign: The campaign dedicated to health and fitness will have a booth, and will lead those participating in the Fishawack Run in calisthenics before they take off for their race.
  3. You need to know about history: The Historical Society of Chatham Township and the Chatham Historical Society will both have booths at Fishawack.
  4. You need to know about town memorials: The Chatham Borough 9-11 Commission will have a booth at Fishawack. The commission fundraises for the upkeep and maintenance of the three memorials in town dedicated to the memory of those who died in the terrorist attacks on Sept. 11. The memorials are located in Reasoner Park, Memorial Park and at the Chatham Train Station.
  5. You need to know about the environment: The Borough and Township Environmental Commissions have reserved a booth at Fishawack, and attendants can learn more about the missions of these boards by checking out their booths.
