Trees, Proms and Recycling

And other essential information for Friday, April 29, 2011.

The National Weather Service predicts sunshine and near 70 degree temperatures for Chatham on Friday, with a 20 percent chance of light rain in the morning and a cool evening to follow. Perfect weather for planting trees or going to the prom. To find out more, check out the Five Things You Need to Know Today:

  1. You need to know about recycling: Curbside recycling pickup begins in Chatham Township at 6 a.m. Monday.
  2. You need to know about story time: The Library of the Chathams offers Drop In for Stories at 10 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. for children ages 6 and younger.
  3. You need to know about sports: Baseball and softball games against Hanover Park High School, originally scheduled for Friday afternoon, have been postponed to May 16.
  4. You need to know about the prom: The Chatham High School junior prom begins at 7 p.m. at the Fairmount Country Club
  5. You need to know about trees and plants: Friday is Arbor Day, a day to learn about tree planting and care and to help encourage trees in your neighborhood. Peter Finkle of Environmental Approach will speak at Stanley Nursery School at 12:30 p.m. Friday to talk about trees and help children plan flowers near the school. Why not follow suit?
