Thunderstorms, Movies and This Date in Baseball History

Chathamites may want to grab their umbrellas as they leave the house Thursday, since the National Weather Service predicts a 50 percent chance of thunderstorms during the day and evening. It sounds like a good evening to stay indoors with a movie, and the Library of the Chathams happens to have a film screening scheduled at 7 p.m. To find out more, check out the Five Things You Need to Know Today:

You need to know what this date means to baseball: June 16 is Ladies’ Day in baseball, a tradition which started in 1883 when all ladies who attended the New York Gothams (later known as the New York and then San Francisco Giants) game on June 16 were admitted to the ball park for free. Ten years after the first Ladies’ Day, R.W. Rueckheim invented the Cracker Jack, also on June 16.
