Despite the 50 percent chance of thunderstorms Wednesday, temperatures should reach a high of 68 degrees. But there are many other things happening in Chatham besides interesting weather, so to find out more, check out the Five Things You Need to Know Today:

  1. You need to know how to look at art: And Mary Bobeck can teach you how if you attend her seminar at the Library of the Chathams at 10 a.m. Wednesday.
  2. You need to know about sports: Girls softball takes on the Academy of St. Elizabeth, girls golf faces Mother Seton Regional High, the track teams face Hanover Park and Dover High Schools, girls lacrosse takes on West Morris Central High and the boys varsity team takes on Lenape Valley Regional High.
  3. You need to know about musicals: The Southern Boulevard Musical will be performed tonight at the Chatham High auditorium beginning at 7 p.m.
  4. You need to know about planning: The Borough Planning Board meets at 7:30 p.m. at the Borough Municipal Building.
  5. You need to know about history: Why not brush up on history by learning some of the significance of April 20:
  • Oliver Cromwell dissolved the Rump Parliament in 1653;
  • Religious freedom was granted to the Jews of New Amsterdam (now New York City) in 1675;
  • The Siege of Boston began  in 1775;
  • France declared war on Austria, starting the French Revolutionary Wars in 1792;
  • Robert E. Lee resigned his commission in the U.S. Army so he could lead Virginia forces in the Civil War in 1861;
  • Adolph Hitler was born in 1889;
  • And Fenway Park opened in Boston, Mass. in 1912.
