Raccoon That Caused Power Outage Was Found Dead Near Equipment

Service was restored in phases Sunday night.

A raccoon is to blame for a power outage that knocked out power to 3,484 residents in the borough and in Summit Sunday night.

Jersey Central Power & Light spokeswoman Roberta Sheridan said the raccoon got into some equipment and caused the outage. She said the animal was found dead at the scene.

Sheridan also said the power went out at 9:30 p.m. and was restored in phases. Some customers had their power turned back on at 10:35 p.m., while others had it returned at 10:58 p.m. and a final group waited until 11:05 p.m.
