UPDATE: More Power Outages Reported Saturday

JCP&L told Mayor Nelson Vaughan that the outage Friday afternoon was likely caused by a heavy use of electricity.

Chatham Borough Mayor Nelson Vaughan said that power was restored to parts of Chatham Borough after a brief outage Friday. 

On Saturday, Chatham residents reported further outages in the southern part of Chatham Borough, beginning in the early morning. At 11:22 a.m., power had still not been restored.

Reports of outages north of Main Street near Milton Avenue School were received Friday afternoon beginning at around 3 p.m.

Vaughan said he spoke with representatives from JCP&L, who are investigated the outage. "They said this is one of the highest kilowatt hours of the year," Vaughan said.

Temperatures in Chatham are predicted to exceed 100 degrees Friday and Saturday, and police have advised residents to stay indoors, use their air conditioners and stay hydrated.
