Poetry, Budgets and Basketball on Mardi Gras

And all the other essential information you need to know to get you through your Tuesday.

If you plan to give up something for Lent, we suggest you indulge with vigor (and within reason) Tuesday! We will provide a list of where you can get ashes on Wednesday later today, but in the meantime, we have other essential information to get you through your day:

  1. You need to know about the school budget: Superintendent Jim O’Neill will give a public presentation on the school budget at today at 9 a.m.
  2. You need to learn to appreciate CYO Basketball: And at tonight’s at Corpus Christi Roman Catholic Church from 6 to 8 p.m. could be the perfect opportunity!
  3. You need to support your local poets: meets tonight at Café Beethoven at 7 p.m.
  4. You need to know about health in Chatham Township: And if you go to the meeting tonight in Chatham Township, you can probably learn everything you need.
  5. You need to know about your last chance to party hard: It’s Mardi Gras! The French title of this holiday mean literally “Fat Tuesday,” but it is also known as “Shrove Tuesday.” As the last day before the Lenten season begins on Ash Wednesday, Mardi Gras was a chance to indulge in luxuries that would be given up until Easter. In former years this especially pertained to rich, expensive, fatty foods – hence the name “Fat Tuesday.”
